How Google Shopping star ratings work
Google Shopping star ratings on Shopify come from a product review feed sent to Google Merchant Center, not from the review widget on your product page. The feed lists each product, its identifiers and the reviews attached to it, and Google decides whether to show an aggregate rating under your Shopping ads and free listings.
Three things have to line up before product ratings in Google Merchant Center turn into visible stars:
- A review feed from a reviews app that Google accepts, refreshed on a schedule so new reviews keep flowing.
- Product identifiers that match between your Shopify product feed and your review feed, usually GTIN, MPN or brand plus SKU. A mismatch is the most common reason stars never appear.
- Enough published reviews per product to clear Google's own minimums, which Google publishes in Merchant Center Help and changes from time to time.
None of this is a theme change. If your reviews app has no Google feed, no amount of widget styling will put stars in Shopping.
Seller ratings and product ratings are not the same thing
Seller ratings and product ratings are two separate programs, and stores often chase the wrong one. Product ratings are the stars attached to a single product, drawn from reviews of that product. Seller ratings are the stars attached to your store as a whole, drawn from experience reviews about shipping, service and ordering.
A product review app feeds product ratings. Store-level reviews, which Quoli also collects on every plan, are about the buying experience and sit alongside product reviews in your account. Decide which one you are trying to light up before you start debugging a feed.
What a store needs in place before ratings can show
Volume is the part most stores underestimate. A feed with two reviews spread across 300 SKUs will not produce stars, so the work starts with collection, not with Merchant Center.
- Automatic review requests on every order, timed after purchase, fulfillment or delivery, with one reminder.
- Reviews spread across your best-selling products, not concentrated on one hero SKU.
- Published reviews. Anything sitting unmoderated in a queue is not in the feed.
- Clean product identifiers in Shopify, because the review feed matches on them.
If your request email is the bottleneck, keep it short and name the product. This is the kind of message that gets a reply:
Subject: How are the Daily Lace runners? Hi Sarah, your Daily Lace runners should have arrived by now. How are they? One tap below sets the stars, and a photo helps the next shopper more than anything else you can write. It takes about a minute, and we read every one.
How Quoli sends star ratings to Google Shopping
Quoli is a Shopify product reviews app, and its Google Shopping integration publishes a daily review feed so stars can show on Shopping ads and free listings. The integration is connected from the Quoli admin, not from code.
- Install Quoli from the Shopify App Store and add the review widgets to your product pages in the Shopify theme editor.
- Turn on automatic review requests. Requests go out by email, link, QR code and the on-site form, timed after purchase, fulfillment or delivery, and delivery timing can wait for carrier tracking on Shopify orders to say delivered.
- Publish the reviews you collect, including the photo and video ones. Only published reviews go into the feed.
- Move to the Growth plan, which is where the Google Shopping feed and Meta catalog ratings are included.
- Open Settings, then Integrations, in the Quoli admin and connect Google Shopping. The full list of what connects is on the integrations page.
- Confirm in Google Merchant Center that the review feed is being picked up and that your product identifiers match. Google processes the feed on its own schedule, so stars appear after it approves, not the moment you connect.
After that the feed refreshes daily, so newly collected reviews reach Google without anyone exporting a file.
Which Quoli plan includes the Google Shopping feed
Quoli has a free forever plan, and paid plans start with a 14-day trial. The Google Shopping feed sits on Growth, which is the plan where channel features begin.
- Free ($0): 100 monthly orders and review requests, photo reviews, attributes, questions and answers, every storefront widget, SEO and rich snippets.
- Starter ($10 a month): video reviews, discounts and rewards, a branded sender email, white-glove migration, 1,000 monthly orders and requests.
- Growth ($30 a month): the Google Shopping feed and Meta catalog ratings, plus UGC ads, Nuggets, AI review summaries and sentiment, and 5,000 monthly orders and requests.
- Advanced ($100 a month) and Unlimited ($300 a month): AI replies and answers, AI confidence moderation, attribute extraction, then uncapped volume with bespoke widget design and a dedicated success manager.
Full details are on the pricing page. Every paid plan includes white-glove migration, so existing reviews come across with their photos and videos before the feed goes out.
What the shopper sees once the feed is live
On Google, a shopper sees an aggregate star rating and review count under the product in Shopping ads and free listings, drawn from the reviews in the feed. That rating is the first thing competing for the click, before they ever reach your store.
On the product page, the same reviews do the rest of the work: photo and video reviews from verified buyers, attribute filters like fit, skin type or taste so shoppers can read people like them, Q&A answered by your team, and Nuggets that put one real line next to the buy button. The click Google sends lands on a page that keeps the promise the stars made.
Rich snippets in organic search are on every Quoli plan
Google Shopping is only half the picture. Stars in organic blue-link results come from review structured data on the product page, which Quoli outputs on every plan, including the free forever plan. A store that is not ready to pay for the Shopping feed can still earn rich snippets in search.
The two run on different plumbing. Structured data lives in your theme through the Quoli widgets. The Shopping feed is a separate file Google pulls daily. Having one does not guarantee the other, which is why stores sometimes see stars in search results and nothing in Shopping.
How to check your star ratings are live
- In Merchant Center, check the product reviews feed is received and look at its processing report for errors.
- Compare identifiers: pull one SKU and confirm the GTIN or MPN is identical in the product feed and the review feed.
- Count published reviews on that SKU in the Quoli admin. If the count is low, the product is probably below Google's minimum.
- Search the product on Google Shopping in an incognito window, from the country you sell in.
- For organic stars, run the product URL through Google's Rich Results Test and confirm the review snippet is valid.
If the feed is clean and the counts are there, the remaining variable is time. Google approves and refreshes on its own schedule.
How Quoli compares with other reviews apps
Most established Shopify reviews apps can send ratings to Google, but the plan it takes varies a lot. Here is where the Google Shopping feed sits in each app's published pricing.
| App | Free plan | First paid plan | Google Shopping ratings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quoli | Free forever, up to 100 orders a month | $10 a month, Starter | Google Shopping feed, Growth ($30) and up |
| Judgeme | Free plan, unlimited reviews | $15 a month, Awesome | Awesome plan |
| Loox | Free plan up to 500 orders | $49.99 a month, Convert | Google syndication, Convert plan |
| Stamped | No free plan listed | $23 a month, Reviews | Not listed |
From each app's Shopify App Store listing, checked October 16, 2026. Quoli details from Quoli's plans.
Judgeme fits stores that want one low-priced paid plan with AI, Q&A and a long integrations list, or Etsy and Amazon review imports. Loox fits stores that want referrals and AI sorting of photo reviews in one plan, or reviews as social posts and stories. Stamped fits stores that want reviews and a loyalty program from the same vendor.
Every app side by side, including plans and trials, is on the comparison page.
Frequently asked questions
Does Quoli send star ratings to Google Shopping?
Yes. Quoli is a Shopify product reviews app, and its Google Shopping integration publishes a daily review feed so stars can appear on Shopping ads and free listings. It is included on the Growth plan at $30 a month and above, connected from Settings, then Integrations.
Why are my star ratings not showing in Google Shopping yet?
The usual causes are too few published reviews on the product, product identifiers that do not match between the product feed and the review feed, reviews still sitting unpublished, or Google simply not having processed the feed yet. Check the feed's processing report in Merchant Center first.
Do I need a paid plan to get stars in organic Google search results?
No. Review structured data and rich snippets are included on every Quoli plan, including the free forever plan. The Google Shopping feed is the part that needs Growth or above.
Are seller ratings and product ratings the same thing?
No. Product ratings are stars on an individual product, built from reviews of that product. Seller ratings are stars on your store as a whole, built from experience reviews about ordering, shipping and service. A product review feed only feeds the first one.
Can I keep my existing reviews if I switch reviews apps?
Yes. Quoli imports reviews from a CSV file on any plan, and on paid plans the Quoli team moves reviews with their photos and videos and brings widgets live with the reviews already in place.
How long does it take for the stars to appear after connecting?
Once the feed is connected and clean, the timing is Google's. Merchant Center processes and approves review feeds on its own schedule, so keep collecting reviews and check the processing report rather than reconnecting the integration.
Install Quoli free from the Shopify App Store. The free forever plan covers the core widgets, and paid plans start with a 14-day trial.
