In April 2026, Shopify awarded Quoli the Built for Shopify badge, the platform's quality designation for apps. This post covers what the badge means, what Shopify evaluates to grant it, and why it matters for merchants choosing a reviews and UGC stack.
Short version: BFS is the signal Shopify gives that an app is safe to build your business on. It isn't a paid placement, it isn't a vanity sticker. It's an ongoing audit against a set of merchant-impact criteria.
What Built for Shopify actually is#
Built for Shopify is Shopify's curation program. Apps are reviewed against a published set of standards covering performance, design, ease of install, and merchant trust, and the badge goes to apps that meet the bar in every category. There's no application fee and no fast track.
Two things make the program meaningful. First, the standards are real: Shopify defines what good looks like for each category, and apps either meet that or they don't. Second, the badge is visible inside the App Store and inside the Shopify admin, so merchants can use it as a filter when shortlisting tools. The badge is also reviewed on an ongoing basis, so apps that slip below the bar lose it.
What Shopify evaluates#
The audit spans four broad areas. We had to clear every one, not just average across them.
Performance
Apps that ship to storefronts can't slow them down. Shopify measures real-world page-load impact on stores running the app, not synthetic benchmarks.
Quoli's review widgets lazy-load below the fold, hydrate progressively, and stay out of the storefront's critical render path. We treat performance as a brand attribute, not just an engineering metric.
Design and install experience
The admin app has to feel like a native part of Shopify: Polaris-aligned components, embedded inside the Shopify admin, no jarring redirects out to a third-party dashboard. Storefront widgets have to be accessible to keyboard users and assistive technology, and they have to inherit the merchant's theme rather than fight it.
Every Quoli widget (review carousel, ratings summary, UGC gallery, Q&A) ships with proper ARIA labeling, focus management, and reduced-motion fallbacks. The admin is Polaris-native, so merchants who manage other Shopify apps don't have to learn a new UI to use ours.
Support and ops
Shopify reviews historical support data from the merchants using your app. They look at how quickly tickets get a first reply, how reliably issues get resolved, and how merchants feel about the experience afterward.
Our support team is small but the on-call rotation is tight. Merchants reach a human inside business hours, and tickets get resolved instead of being passed around. That's the bar Shopify enforces, and it's the bar we have to keep hitting.
Merchant trust
Shopify weighs both the volume of reviews on your App Store listing and the rating, and they weight review recency. A strong rating from years ago doesn't carry the day if recent feedback has slipped.
Quoli currently holds a 4.8 average rating across 41 reviews on the Shopify App Store, with a free forever plan and a 14-day trial on paid tiers. The screenshot below shows the live listing.

What the badge means for merchants choosing Quoli#
If you're evaluating reviews and UGC apps for your Shopify store, here's what the BFS badge changes about that decision.
- Shopify is actively monitoring us. The badge isn't permanent. Shopify reviews it on an ongoing basis. If performance, support, or merchant satisfaction drop, the badge drops too. You're not just buying a tool, you're buying ongoing Shopify oversight of that tool.
- Procurement gets easier. For Shopify Plus brands, BFS is often a procurement signal. Agencies and ops teams use the badge to shortcut vendor review, which cuts the back-and-forth.
- Performance is a constraint, not an aspiration. Storefront performance is part of the badge. If we ship code that regresses your storefront speed, the badge is at risk. That keeps engineering focused on the right things.
- Better surfacing inside Shopify. BFS apps get visible badging in the App Store, and for some categories a path into Shopify Plus partner programs. That's a signal Shopify is investing in apps that hit the bar.
- Support is part of the contract. The SLAs aren't marketing copy. Shopify audits how we handle merchant tickets. The same response and resolution standards we had to prove for BFS are the ones we have to keep hitting.
What's next#
BFS isn't a finish line. Shopify reviews the badge on an ongoing basis, and the bar moves: standards tighten as the platform matures. So the work doesn't change. We keep shipping faster widgets, keep response times low, and keep listening to the merchants who got us here.
A specific commitment for this quarter: we're rebuilding the review-import pipeline to halve the time-to-first-review for new installs, and we're rolling out a Plus-only widget set with Polaris-aligned theming controls. Both ship before the end of next quarter.
To the merchants who left reviews, sent support tickets, and pushed us on the rough edges, you got us this badge. Thank you. We'll keep it.
Try Quoli on your store#
If the BFS badge is what you were waiting for, here's the next step: install Quoli free from the Shopify App Store. The free forever plan covers the core widgets, and any paid plan starts with a 14-day trial. Or book a 20-minute demo and we'll walk through your specific setup before you install anything.
